Installation and first startup ​

1. Prepare ​

  • Device: check that it is a comma three / 3X / four within the current README's supported range.
  • Vehicle: identify model, year, powertrain, HDA/ADAS configuration and the required harness.
  • Network: prepare Wi-Fi that can download the installation.
  • Existing installation: record the branch and commit and back up settings first.

Start with vehicle configuration.

2. Current installation URL ​

Enter this on the software installation screen of a reset device:

This is the URL documented by the current README. No physical device installation was performed as part of preparing this guide. For an existing installation that only needs an update, check the current branch and update controls in Carrot Web instead of resetting it.

Old tr16-e and v7 URLs are not the reference for this guide. A carrot prebuilt branch is also public, but the README currently recommends carrot-wip.

3. First-start checks ​

  1. Finish the installation prompts and start the device.
  2. Confirm vehicle detection or selection matches the actual vehicle and harness.
  3. Check Wi-Fi and the device IP address.
  4. While parked, check gear, speed, pedals and CAN errors.
  5. Check camera calibration and driver monitoring.
  6. Open Carrot Web, record the branch and commit, and back up settings.

If there are vehicle errors or a detection mismatch, do not proceed to steering or acceleration/braking tests. Record the configuration and logs rather than enabling a setting to conceal an error.

4. Open it on your phone ​

Join the same network and open http://DEVICE-IP:7000. You can also tap the device's white carrot icon and scan its QR code.

A separate CarrotMan APK is not needed for current settings. Current user documentation states that CarrotMan and CarrotLink are unsupported. The internal carrotMan service name does not imply app support.

Your first day ​

Check baseline behavior before changing settings. Change one item at a time, record before/after values and the circumstances, and return to understanding settings if you cannot tell which value is active.
